Favourites: I love all colours, Italian food like pasta and pizza are my favourites, I love all kinds of music, the TV show Grey’s Anatomy and MTV, summer holidays, cookies, and shopping!

Hobbies: I really like chatting on the computer with my friends in the Philippines and the USA. I’ve started to really love baking and cooking, and I always like reading romance novels and listening to music.

School & Stuff: Drama is my favourite subject. I came from the Philippines 2 years ago. School is really strict there compared to here in Canada. You’re not allowed to go to school with dyed hair, nail polish or extreme fashions. I really noticed a difference where students here talk back to teachers and get away with it, whereas, you would get suspended or expelled if you did that where I came from.

Personality: My friends would say I’m funny and bubbly. I don’t really get mad, I like to laugh at stuff, I have a laid-back personality, and I don’t like getting into ‘girl drama’. I have two brothers I like to joke around with a lot.

Life Challenge: Leaving my friends from the Philippines was really hard. Even harder was when my grandmother died. She had stayed with us and we took care of her. She was the only grandmother I had that I actually met and I was really close to her. Her death was kind of expected because she was sick for a while, but it was still hard. I saw her every day for 12 years and then she was just gone. I was so sad that I’d never get to talk to her again. My message to other girls experiencing the loss of a grandmother or someone they love would be that it happens, and that’s part of life. Remember the good times and look to your family. Mine was a great support getting through it and I know they were feeling it too. We also were comforted knowing she was in a better place.

Proud of: I’m really proud of my unique name! While in the hospital after I was born, my Mom was reading a book where the main character’s name was Heaven Leigh. My Grandmother liked it too but suggested Joy instead of Leigh, so I got the name Heaven Joy.

So Heaven: Shopping, baking, eating healthy, saying OMG or “Like Oh My Gosh”, laughing, having fun and joking around with my friends is SO ME!
Cool Fact about Heaven: For 10 years I’ve always had long hair and for the new school year I wanted a new look so I got brave and cut it short. Now I like it better.

Future: I love kids and cooking so I would like to either be a Kindergarten teacher or do something culinary. I also want to go to France and Italy and travel Europe to check out the fashion industry.

Pet Peeve: It drives me crazy when people bite their nails or burp loudly!
