ASK A GIRL

1. What do you think is the most important thing when finding a new friend?

Anne, 11:
I don’t think there is only one most important thing. You have to look for different things.
Patricia, 12: Being real.
Kim, 14: Make sure they’re not fake.
Bailey, 12: Awesomeness, kindness, loyalness and honestness.
Audrey, 9: They have sleepovers.
Renai, 12: Being themselves, good people, honest.
Heather-Ann, 14: I think that being true and trustworthy is a total must in a new friend.
Victoria, 12: That you guys have things in common and you get along really well. And the person’s personality of course.
Alma, 12: How nice they are, personality of course. Also make sure they're themselves and not what kids on TV are.
Anna, 12: Personality matters most.
Shion, 12: That you guys like eachother for who you really are.
Kate, 14: That your friend isn’t going to be a bad influence (aside from the obvious like personality and stuff).
Jessica, 15: That you guys click right away.
Laura, 11: What her personality is like.
Olivia, 12: A very good sense of humor.
Hannah, 9: Caring and funny.
Jordan, 9: The most important is to be truthful.
Julianna 9: Ask their name.
Emily W, 9: Make sure they’re not mean or bossy.
Katie, 9: Be nice, kind and introduce him/her to your friends.
Abbey, 9: Be nice to them.
Sarah, 9: Make sure they’re nice.
Nicole, 10: Trust.
Emily D, 9: Funny, nice, unperfect, like me for who I am.
Stace, 17: That they listen and give good advice.
Marissa, 17: When looking for a new friend, I look for someone who has similar hobbies to mine, and who enjoys the same sort of things as I do.
Casey, 14: I look for someone who is nice and who is nice to me.
Meghan, 18: In a friend I look for someone I can trust, because trust is one of the qualities I value the most.
Caitlin, 16: I don’t really go looking for friends, but if I did they would be someone who loves horses as much as I do!
Andrea, 13: I look for someone who likes to ravel, and is around the same size as me so we could share clothes.

2. Who’s your role model at this point in life and why?

Anne, 11:
My Mom. She knows what to do always.
Patricia, 12: My Mom, definitely.
Bailey, 12: Aunt Sue, my mom, Mrs. Simpson and my Gramma Polly.
Audrey, 9: Miley Cyrus
Sarah, 14: My role model is totally my mom, she works so hard!
Anna, 12: Suzanne Collins, because she writes the BEST books EVER! I would SOOOOO love to meet her.
Alma, 12: My older cousin Kaltrina. She's two years older than me and helps me a lot in tween and teen days.
Victoria, 12: I don’t really have a role model. I like it better if I make my own decisions and not try to follow someone else’s lead.
Shion, 12: My grandparents probably. They’re both really nice and very successful.
Jessica, 15: My older sis Faith. Even though she’s really annoying at times, she’s still really nice (when she wants to be) and does good in school.
Laura, 11: Oprah! She’s soooo nice and so successful and she wants to help everyone.
Olivia, 12: Ummm... no clue. Probably my Mom because she is an amazing person.
Hannah, 9: Terry Foz because he helped people with cancer.
Julianna, 9: Mom because she is successful.
Emily W, 9: My mom because she’s great!
Katie, 9: Terry Fox. He tried to raise money for charity.
Abbey, 9: Miley Cyrus
Sarah, 9: My parents because they show me what to do.
Marissa, 17: My role model is Rosa Parks, because she stood up for what she believed was morally right, and did not care about the consequences.
Casey, 14: My role model is Anne Frank because she was a teenage girl who really made a difference.
Meghan, 18: My role model is my mother, because she has never let me down. No matter what I do.

3. What do you think about fashion models… what kind of people are they, what are their values, what makes them different from you?

Sara, 9: I think they are real pretty, and probably nice, because pretty people are nice.
Nicole, 12: I think they have awesome styles, and are probably pretty cool. They have a job.
Meghan, 10: I think that fashion models are nice because they wear great clothes and look pretty all the time.
Kaliegh, 15: They have to look beautiful because cameras are always in their face, but I would not want all that attention.
Patrice, 14: Most models are too thin, but I like their clothes.
Kait, 18: I like reading about models to find out how they got started in the business. Some of them are very pretty and smart.
Lindsay, 16: Most of the models you see on television or in magazines are too thin although they are very pretty and wear beautiful clothes.
Jessie, 19: I think models have a lot of pressure put on them; they have to be slim, pretty, and be photographed a lot. Even though they get to wear the latest fashions, they still have a demanding lifestyle.
Gabrielle, 10: The models get to be on television or their picture in magazines which is cool.
Anonymous: They have way more money than me and they are cool.
Anonymous: They seem to be skinny and stupid.
Logan,12: Pretty, fruity and all girly but I am not.
Renai,12: I think they are preppy and the difference is snobness and personality.
Anonymous: I think of them as tall skinny people.
Terri, 9: I think they all seem stupid :)
Alma, 12: They only care about how they look. I think they need to get their priorities right because it seems like that’s the most important thing to them and they don’t care as much about friends, or personality, getting an education or their health. They just want to be skinny.
Shion, 12: I feel sorry for them because it seems like they’ve been abused by the world. In their industry, they’re forced to be stick-skinny so that they can make a living and after all their efforts to become what their agency wants them to look like, adults call them a bad influence towards their children and the world practically hates them and thinks they’re totally shallow.
Anna, 12: I don’t get them. They only care about how they look, and not what they are as a person. They work WAY too hard for something so small like beauty
Victoria, 12: Everyone steorotypes models so I feel sorry for them. Not all models are super skinny or starving themselves to become super skinny. Some of them are perfectly healthy and have a lot of self confidence. Lots of models love what they do and gave up a lot to achieve what they have in their career, yet the world judges them and thinks they have no self respect in the way that they let everyone else decide how they should look. Also, there’s a lot of pressure put on them to make a living and do what they’re told, but also to send a positive message to kids and teens.
Kate, 14: They’re not as bad as some people think they are but they don’t think about what they’re saying to the world through their pictures. Also I think they wear way too much makeup just to coverup every little flaw.
Sydney, 13: There’s nothing wrong with being a model as long as you don’t put you’re life at risk to look good. Some of them are actually really nice and smart, even though everyone thinks that they’re stupid and materialistic.
Amy, 10: I don’t like them. They always have to look so perfect all the time and don’t ever let themselves have fun.
Hannah, 15: I don’t feel right judging people that I do not know, every person is unique and should not be defined by a term that can be very stereotypical. There are some people who have bad values and feel a lot of negative impact from the media, but that falls into the category of everybody!
Michaela, 13: I feel bad for them because I think they have a lot of negative pressure on them.
Laura, 15: Honestly, I wish I could be them.
Samantha, 15: They are beautiful but feel like they will never be good enough, lots of my friends feel like that and it makes me feel upset.
Alexa, 11: They spend too much time on their looks.
Sam, 11: Bad role models!
Robyn, 14: I think that a lot of the models have major self-esteem issues that they need to work out.
Katie, 9: They are famous and we aren’t.
Emily W, 9: They are snobby and too skinny, They think about themselves. They are different from me because I am not too skinny. I am a good shape and I don’t think about myself only I think about other people too.
Laura, 14: I think fashion models are often way too skinny and care about their appearances too much. They aren’t necessarily bad people its just I think they try too hard to get other people to look at them. I’m different from them because I’m not too worried about my weight when usually models will be doing anything to lose a few pounds.

I have a friend who does modeling as a hobby. She told me that there's a lot of pressure from the people who run the business, but she loves putting on new clothes and getting her hair done and meeting new people. I also have a male teacher who used to model, and over all, they're not much different from anyone else... except perhaps that they walk a little differently by habit of going down the runway!

They're just people doing their job and I don't think real girls should compare themselves to them because of how airbrushed they are i mean nobody can look that great with out the computer and make-up.
