BATHROOMS
It's NO SECRET... bathrooms get MESSY!

Chances are that since you’re a teenager you spend a lot of time in the bathroom! If you’re lucky you may have your own bathroom, but if you’re like most people, you have to share. Why not clean up and organize your bathroom to make your morning routine easier and get your parents off your back about the time you spend in there? They’ll be super impressed that you took the initiative and will be even more impressed if you keep it up! 7 Tips to Get Your Bathroom Organized:

1. Empty Out the Cupboards! Take out everything, and I mean everything! Toss out any expired prescriptions, old nail polish, hair products you thought you’d use but never do, and any items that you haven’t used in the last 6 months.

2. Purge the Old Makeup!
Makeup tends to accumulate and never get tossed. For hygienic reasons, you need to purge items regularly. Powder products, lipstick, eyeliners and shadows are usually good for about 2 years. Mascara should be replaced every 6 months, concealer/foundation every 12-18 months, liquid eyeliners 3-6 months, and nail polish about every year. These are guidelines only. Have a sniff and a look… if your makeup has an odour or is discoloured, it should be discarded. If in doubt: toss it out! Any makeup you thought you would wear, but never do, should go. When you’re out with your BFF’s and think you’d like to buy some new makeup, think about what you already have at home. You’ll avoid having duplicates and won’t waste money on extras!

3. Proper Storage! Buy or find some under the counter baskets/storage units to keep items together. Containerize items and label them to make it easier to find things later. Think outside the box to find useful containers to sort and store your items. Small tool kits or tackle boxes make great make up and hair accessory storage. Shoeboxes are great for sanitary items (like pads) or for extra supplies and bath products. Hair clips, sprays, flat irons and gel should all be close together. Get a portable caddy so that if you have to get ready in a different room, it will all be together and easy to access.

4. Think Safety! Medicine cabinets should be organized with safety in mind. If you have younger siblings in the house, consider keeping medications in a locked box or on the top shelf of your cabinet.
Group ‘like’ items together. Keep cold medications together, fever/pain, allergies etc. together.

5. Most Needed in Easy Reach! Keep your daily items such as hair products, toothbrushes, shaving supplies and so on within easy reach. What you use the most should be the easiest to get at. Things you don’t use often can be tucked away in a less convenient spot. Get in the habit of putting items away where they belong every day! Then they’ll be there when you need them next!

6. Clean, Uncluttered Counters! There are many handy disinfectant wipes available. Keep some in your washroom for quick wipe ups. Always keep your counter as clear as possible. Only keep soap and daily necessities out in view.

7. Make it Nice! If you can, paint and decorate your bathroom to be a peaceful serene space. You will start your day more energized and go to bed more relaxed if you can calm the chaos in the bathroom.
