HAIR STYLIST?
Dear Melissa,
What is your job like as a hair stylist? Like if I was good at it but I didn't want to cut hair at those $9 places all day, how can I do photo shoots and fun stuff like you? People tell me you have to do the bad jobs to work your way up but I want to skip that and do the fun stuff!!

Great question, “Great With Hair”,
I love my job as a hairstylist. It is a career where you will never stop learning. There are always classes and new techniques to learn. It is also a very rewarding job. Making people look and feel better about them selves themselves is one word is the best part!
To be able to do all of the “fun stuff,” you first need to know what you are doing. So whether you decide to go to school and/or apprentice with an expert, that is the best place to start. Once you have a good skill set you can align yourself with a good salon that will support what you do. You can then begin assisting and volunteering for other projects, like photo shoots, and fashion shows. Yes, at the beginning you may not get paid, but you will be getting experience. That is what it is all about, getting the experience so you can have the skills and speed for these types of jobs. As long as you enjoy what you do, then it doesn’t seem like you’re working your way up from “bad jobs”. It seems like you are doing what you love and having fun along the way!
