CCLC

Hi, I'm Jessica Haines... I used to write the 'Teen Stuff' column with Brittney (she's still writing it) but now I am the Program Director of the 'be real be you.TM Cross Canada Leadership Committee'... AKA: the CCLC.
The CCLC is a cool Leadership Committee we run here at GCDA where girls from across Canada get to be involved to practice their leadship skills and have a ton of fun at the same time!
Every year for 6 months, the newest group of members poll their girl and guy friends with questions we send them. The answers they collect are used in your favourite articles: 'Ask a Guy' and 'Ask a Girl'.
Committee Leaders also pick a 'CCLC Challenge' that they get their friends and family or schools involved in to really test out their leadership skills. Here are the Challenges they choose from:
- 'pay it forward challenge' by doing nice things
- 'beauty challenge' to see how dependent on makeup/labels/hair they are
- 'community challenge' by running a weekly Girl's Club
- 'eco challenge' by doing tasks that are environmentally conscious
- 'literacy challenge' by helping others and reading lots of books
Being on the CCLC helps these girls learn skills in self-esteem, leadership, social skills, organization and time management... awesome traits to put on their resumes some day! The best part is they have FUN, they get published in a now-global online empowerment magazine (GCDA, of course), plus they get some cool GCDA swag when they're done.
Meet the best team I've worked with so far... well, they are MY first because this is my first year running it, but they rock!
If you want to be on the CCLC next year, be sure to write in and apply.
~ Jessica

CCLC CHALLENGES
See what they are and challenge yourself to follow along!
Results for February Challenges are up... see how they went:
Marissa:
LITTERLESS LUNCHES...
Choose to do this with a group of friends/families, your whole class or the whole school if you can get the support (encourage family members to do the same at work)! On the first day, have people bring their lunches how they usually do and record or take a photo of how much litter is involved (this includes recyclables like napkins and bottles and so on). Suggest ways to reduce litter such as replacing reusable containers in place of foil, plastic wrap and plastic lunch bags, or reusable drink containers in place of juice boxes or bottles. Suggest a reusable box or bag in place of paper or plastic lunch bags.
Megan:
NO LABELS...
Try to not style wear labels for the whole month! The challenge is to go without.
Kiana:
LETTERS of LOVE...
It doesn’t have to be mushy, but think of someone who would LOVE to get a LETTER from you, for no other reason than to say hi. Maybe a grandparent or other relative, a teacher, parent, friend or someone else you admire.
