FEBRUARY's CHALLENGE IS: LETTERS of LOVE...
It doesn’t have to be mushy, but think of someone who would LOVE to get a LETTER from you, for no other reason than to say hi. Maybe a grandparent or other relative, a teacher, parent, friend or someone else you admire. Write a letter to say hi and tell them why they are important or meaningful in your life, then get a stamp and actually MAIL IT! People LOVE to get mail (if it’s not a bill!) and what better than a reminder that they are special. Be creative if you like and add stickers or doodles, or fancy paper, or even just plain old white paper and pen… it’s the message that has the meaning! This may be personal for some people so when you ask them about their experience they may just say who they wrote to. If the letters go out in the beginning of the month, you may even find out about the pleasant reactions of the recipients!
Meet Jen from Ontario.

About me: I have brown hair and eyes. My fave colour is purple and my favourite thing to eat are pickles right now. I also am a real girl in GCDA! I am very chatty and friendly. At school I'm involved with a group called STAR (Students Together Against Racism.) I love to swim, and BE LOUD!!!!! One of my idols is Albert Einstein.

Why I love GCDA: I love GCDA because it's an empowerment magazine, it doesnt have on the front "how to lose 10lbs in a week!" or any photoshop on their real girls, they're REAL.

Why I wanted to be on the CCLC: I think being on the CCLC will help me in the future and maybe even I can help the future by being a great leader.

Fave motto: "Imagination is more important than knowledge"- Albert Einstein
My challenge is Pay It Forward!

 NEW!  RESULTS FOR JANUARY 2010:
This month is dedicated to little kids and pets. Find ways to do random acts of kindness for children and animals, for instance, be a reading buddy, do some volunteer babysitting, take some kids tobogganing or skating, be a tutor, plan a craft day, pop into the kindergarten or lower grade classes to read a story/tell jokes, or spend more time with little brothers or sisters at home. Let them know they are worthy and fabulous. For pets you could do some dog walking, invite another dog to come and play with yours, help out at an animal shelter, offer to do some pet grooming, make and donate some cool cat toys. Be creative and make the effort for kids and pets.

JEN:
This month I had to help/play with children and animals. So what I did was I had an idea of making a girls club at my school. So I asked a couple of my friends if they were interested in leading the club with me. They all said "YES!". So Then we went to our Principal and Vice-Principal and gave them the idea of the club, because we are in Grade 7 they thought it would be a great idea for us to learn leadership and responsibilitiy. So we found a teacher to lead it with us and start the group. The club is built to build girls self esteem and answer their questions. The club Now is nicknamed Girls Can Do Anything. I am so excited to see how far it goes! For animals I played with my to wiener dogs (Dash 5 years old and Charlie 7 1/2 months) And cut their nails. Can't wait for Feburary !!!!!

RESULTS FOR DECEMBER 2009:
HOLIDAY HELP...
December is a big holiday month for most people. The goal this month is to find a way to help out over the holidays. Maybe some people just want to be moral support and spread good thoughts and wishes to all. Maybe some of you want to get together for a larger goal such as collecting food and winter clothing for a family in need, or collecting blankets for the homeless, or delivering crafts to the elderly, or helping your parents with holiday preparations, and so on.

JEN: This month I had to find a way to help out over the holidays. So I thought up doing a fundraiser for my school to but a cow or just help the kids in need around the world for example the kids in Africa or other countries. So I told my principle about my idea and he said that it would be a great idea. So I started brainstorming about how I was going to advertise it to the students in my school. THEN IT HAPPENED! A couple days after I gave my idea to my Principal the student committee came into my class and told the whole class about their idea of fundraising money to buy a not a cow but a goat for the kids in  need around the world. I was pretty mad. So I talked to my principal and he didn't realize I wasn't on the committee. So now I had to think of something else. So I thought I could run the food drive this year at my school. So I asked my principal if I could run the food drive and He said “Sure. Why not" So for the whole month of December I was on the announcements telling everyone to bring in food for the food drive, and also I had a committee to help make posters and say stuff on the announcements. On the announcements the group and I just said reminders like "Don't Forget to bring in food food food for the school's food drive" and stuff like that. So, all went well. On the last day of school before the holidays the local food bank came to our school to pick up the food. It was CRAZY! The truck they brought to pick it all up was filled and they had to come back to get a couple more things. I was so happy that I could help lots of people in need. This food drive was easy to conduct with the help of the committee and my Vice-Principal. I learned that if my school of 350 kids could raise that much food then many other schools can too. So that’s my Holiday Help for the month Of December.

RESULTS FOR NOVEMBER 2009: KINDNESS CARDS
This month my challenge was to create Random Acts of Kindness Cards to pass on to others so they could also pass them on by doing what it said on the card.

JEN: First,
I went to my Vice Principal at school to tell him that I'm on the CCLC and that I would really like it if the school would be involved with my challenges. He thought it was amazing that I'm on the CCLC and we gave him a copy of the sheets with all the information that I need to do over the next couple months. That night there was a staff meeting and he used the sheets as examples for our charatcer counts assemblies we do in our school and he also used the ideas on the sheets  throughout the schools classrooms. It was so encouraging that the teachers were using the challenges for our character counts stuff with their students.

So with the kindness cards I wrote on the front 'BE REAL BE YOU pay it foward challenge' then the challenge they had to do. The first week was 'Help someone out in class'.For example: picking up their pencil, helping them with questions, etc. It was a HIT. The first day. Then  I tried to put it back out there and no one wanted to go along with it and the plan crashed. Then the 2nd week the callenge was 'Give someone a heartfelt compliment' this time I handed out four. It was a bigger hit! It went around the classroom so much I still don't have them back. The 3rd week's challenge was 'helping out the school' and it just crashed again and nothing happend BUT I saw the 2nd week cards still going around!! It was wierd. 4th week was 'include people in your game(s)' It was working and everyone had fun.

The cards were very fun and cool to see if they would work. I am so excited to do my next challenge!
