Challenge for 2009/10: PAY IT FORWARD
Every month Kiana did new Pay It Forward challenges.

Meet Kiana from Saskatchewan.

About me: My favourite colour is orange. I like singing, scrapbooking, shopping, (when I have money), hanging with friends, and laughing! My favourite food is pasta with cheese sauce and doughnuts. What makes me unique is that I have had glasses since I was two years old, I have all different sized toes, I have two different moms and
I have a friend for Newfoundland. My pet peeve is when people date just for popularity or ask you out because of a dare.

What I love about GCDA: I love GCDA because we all believe that everyone is special in their own unique ways and can all do something amazing if we try. We believe that we can do something about bullies and make a difference in our world. We should all love ourselves just the way we are. I like knowing that I am in a part of such a positive and moving group.

Why I wanted to be on the CCLC: I wanted to be on this committee because I wanted to help out my favourite magazine and be a part of such a special group of people helping the world be a better place one step at a time. It also helps me become a better person and have better self-esteem.

My motto: Do not compare yourselves with others. Make your own footprints in the sand.
My challenge is Pay It Forward!

FINAL SUMMARY OF MY CHALLENGE!
I can't believe that the year being on the CCLC is already over. It was a lot of fun and I got to get to know Jessica and some of the other girls on the team. I loved how Jessica and Jenifer supported me all the way through and gave me suggestions to make it even better. It was a great experience for me and I learned about leadership too. Being on the CCLC has been amazing! I have had so much fun during the last few months and loved being apart of such a cool magazine. I have had so much support along the way. I will always remember this huge opportunity. All the challenges were fun, though I especially liked the February one. Making cards are my favourite!

RESULTS FOR FEBRUARY 2010: It doesn’t have to be mushy, but think of someone who would LOVE to get a LETTER from you, for no other reason than to say hi. Maybe a grandparent or other relative, a teacher, parent, friend or someone else you admire. Write a letter to say hi and tell them why they are important or meaningful in your life, then get a stamp and actually MAIL IT! People LOVE to get mail (if it’s not a bill!) and what better than a reminder that they are special. Be creative if you like and add stickers or doodles, or fancy paper, or even just plain old white paper and pen… it’s the message that has the meaning! This may be personal for some people so when you ask them about their experience they may just say who they wrote to. If the letters go out in the beginning of the month, you may even find out about the pleasant reactions of the recipients! My February challenge went great! I handed out Valentine cards to all of my friends and family and showed them I really appriciate their friendship and that they mean alot to me. It was fun creating cards and passing them out. I love giving my friends notes and gifts! I like them to know that I really appriciate them. It makes them really happy knowing that I care. It also makes me feel good because they always thank me and appriciate my cards. Lots of them gave me things in return too, though I didn't expect that at all. Valentine's Day is amazing because it is about love and everyone is nice on that day... LOL!

RESULTS FOR JANUARY 2010:
This month is dedicated to little kids and pets. Find ways to do random acts of kindness for children and animals, for instance, be a reading buddy, do some volunteer babysitting, take some kids tobogganing or skating, be a tutor, plan a craft day, pop into the kindergarten or lower grade classes to read a story/tell jokes, or spend more time with little brothers or sisters at home. Let them know they are worthy and fabulous. For pets you could do some dog walking, invite another dog to come and play with yours, help out at an animal shelter, offer to do some pet grooming, make and donate some cool cat toys. Be creative and make the effort for kids and pets.
For this month I helped out a lot with kids, though I didn’t do a lot with animals. I don’t have a pet yet, but pretty soon I will be getting a dog!  I can’t wait! Anyway, this month I did a lot of volunteer work at my church. I helped out in the nursery and played with all the little babies, and helped teach pre-school.  I love children, so this was a really fun and easy challenge for me.

RESULTS FOR DECEMBER 2009:
HOLIDAY HELP...
December is a big holiday month for most people. The goal this month is to find a way to help out over the holidays. Maybe some people just want to be moral support and spread good thoughts and wishes to all. Maybe some of you want to get together for a larger goal such as collecting food and winter clothing for a family in need, or collecting blankets for the homeless, or delivering crafts to the elderly, or helping your parents with holiday preparations, and so on.

For the month of December I helped out a lot. At my church we raised money for the food bank because we heard that they needed more baby formula for their children. We also raised money for the Oasis House Ministries, where runaways and people getting abused can come and stay and be safe. In total our church raised $922. ALL of that money went to very important causes. At our school, we raised money for a boy named Isaac who has a very rare condition of autism. Isaac can’t speak or hear. We really wanted him to have something special this Christmas, so we raised $1900 to buy Isaac a special guide dog that would help him. Our school also helped out Santa’s Little Helpers by filling up shoe boxes for children that don’t get much for Christmas. We had more than 100 boxes by the end of the school month. I am very proud of what my peers and I accomplished this month. It really shows you can do a lot if you try hard.

RESULTS FOR NOVEMBER 2009:
KINDNESS CARDS
This month my challenge was to create Random Acts of Kindness Cards to pass on to others so they could also pass them on by doing what it said on the card.

For this month I think I did a good job at my challenge. I made four kindness cards and gave them out to people I really appreciate. My sister did the same. She even made friendship bracelets for people. I showed kindness and respect everyday to my classmates at school and tried my hardest to be co-operative with my siblings.  Sometimes it was difficult, but it was always worth it.

I would have to say that this challenge was a good pick for me because kindness is very important and we have to show it every day. I love making cards for people. I want to make sure my family and friends know how much I love them and appreciate what they do for me.

Christmas is right around the corner and my friends and I are saving up money to give to the Children’s Wish Foundation. I know they will really appreciate the help.
