Real Girl Kourtney

Favourites: Soccer is my favourite sport and I also really love basketball. Music is very important to me - listening and playing. My favourite is piano but I also play flute, sax and some guitar.  My favourite food is pasta, TV show is ‘That 70’s Show’ and ‘Friends’, and my favourite thing to do is hang out at the mall with my friends.

Hobbies: Music and sports, of course, as well as swimming and riding my bike.

School & Stuff: School is fun for me.  My favourite subjects are math and music and I play on the school’s soccer team.

Personality: I have a lot of friends. I think they would say that I’m bubbly, nosey, very friendly, and a little shy.

Life Challenge: Being bullied… I was bullied in grades 6 and 7 (age 10 and 11). They teased me about my weight and it made me feel so hurt. It took a couple of years for me to be brave enough to stand up and not take it any more. It was the fact that they started picking on my friend that drove me to finally do something about it. So I stood up for myself and told them how I felt. It was scary, but after that it was all fine. You know, I am how I was born and some people aren’t fine with that. It doesn’t matter because I am happy with who I am. My message to other girls would be: “If you are saying hurtful things to someone, that’s bullying. Stop and try to realize what you’re doing, it really hurts and you should stop, it’s just not nice.” And if you are being bullied: “stand up for yourself, you are worth way more than bullies say you are”.
Trust me, I know.

Proud of: I’m really proud of my piano playing. I’ve been playing music for 6 years. I’m in grade 5 piano and I have had to give up some fun times for working hard and doing lots of practicing. I’m also proud that I’m good at math and that I have learned to accept myself for who I am.

So Kourtney: Sleeping in, music, me being loud, me listening to loud music, being considerate and sensitive to other people’s feelings, being great with kids, always wearing track pants/runners/comfy clothes and a pony tail, and not wearing makeup... that is so me!

Embarrassing Moments: I was at the mall with some of my friends. We were going up the escalator and my friend who was trying to be funny ran up the down escalator and cut her knee open! We had to call the medical staff at the mall and everything… although it was funny, it was also embarrassing. My friend with the cut knee laughed too.

Future: I want to travel, to go places and see new things. I have no final career decision so far, I’m waiting to figure it out and am in no rush.
