Dear Angela,
I have brown skin and ever since I started shaving in between my eyebrows I notice the skin looks lighter there... what is up with that?

Hey Girl!
Eyebrows are one of the most noticeable features on the face. Whether light or dark skin, very fine or really thick hair, brows are shaped to add character and definition to the face and emphasize the eyes. NEVER shave your brows!! Razors are for legs! I STRONGLY suggest tweezing your brows or getting them professionally shaped by an esthetician. TRY THIS: Take a cotton pad, moisten it with alcohol and disinfect the area all around your brows as well as your tweezers. Grab the stray hairs one by one and pull them out in the direction they are growing. Make sure you don’t pull out too many and do your best to keep both brows the same. Finish off with a soothing ointment and remember that keeping your brows well groomed is essential. The better they look - the better you look!

I want to pierce my nose but someone said later in my life I will always have a noticeable hole there. Is it true?

Dear Emily,
I am afraid you are right. Once you decide to remove the nose piercing for good, it most likely will leave its mark on your nose for the rest of your life. The size of the indent will shrink but it won’t close.
Before you decide to get a nose piercing, there are certain factors that you need to take into consideration. For example, it is important to know why piercing guns should be avoided. All nose piercing should always be done with a needle. It gives a very short, sharp pain, and it can be placed in an exact spot, where as the studs in the gun are quite blunt and cause tissue trauma. Also, learn about how to take care of your new nose piercing in its healing process, appropriate aftercare regimen is crucial to prevent infections. The piercing should not be removed, otherwise it will close in less than 24 hours. The approximate healing time is 6 - 12 weeks.
So before you jump into the body piercer’s chair, educate yourself and learn what to expect so you can make the right decision for you. It’s not something to take lightly or to do just for fun... it’s for life, so be sure you consider how you may feel about it in the future. Oh, and you may want to talk to your Mom or Dad first!

Dear Melissa,
I started dying my hair and have done my second touch up. For some reason I’m getting bands of slightly different colours at the top. HELP!

Dear Alyson,
There are many variables to consider when colouring your hair. Hair type, natural colour, if it has been coloured before, the condition of your hair, desired colour, etc.Banding can be caused by many things, one being uneven application. When doing a root touch up it is important to section the hair evenly and not to overlap on the colour that is already there.
This is something that is not easy to do yourself. Also depending on how long it had been since you last coloured your hair, the colour could have faded causing the area that you are retouching to look different from the colour you applied the first time.
I suggest making an appointment for a colour consultation with your stylist. Normally there is no charge for a consultation and you can have your hair assessed first hand so you don’t have any further complications down the road!
