Hand and Nail Tips

Hands
and
Nails
- For dry hands and cracked cuticles, massage in a rich nourishing hand cream (with Vitamin E) and wear gloves while you sleep to keep them moist.
- Never cut your cuticles, they protect the nail from bacteria that causes infection. Gently push them back with a warm wet Q-tip.
- To prevent ridges and splitting, do not file your nails in a see-saw motion. Instead, file or shape your nails from the outside corner to the center.
- Shoes: to help prevent in-grown toe nails and other nail problems such as nail fungus, it’s important that your shoes fit properly and that your footwear (including your socks) are clean and free of odour.
- Eat a balanced diet! One of the most important parts of maintaining strong, healthy nails for life is making sure you get the vitamins, minerals and nutrients your body needs.
- DON’T BITE! Try using anti-biting nail paint. It taste really really bad, but it will stop you from biting.
- To protect and strenghten your nails, apply a transparent top coat.
- Instead of cutting your nails use a nail file to shape them, but file in one direction only.
COOL TIP:
If your nail polish is getting thick and old, try adding a few drops of nail polish remover and shake it up. It will thin it out and give you a couple more uses!
Putting on the Polish
- Start with clean nails. Wash your hands with warm water and a nail brush, then moisturize for soft hands and cuticles. Use nail polish remover to clean your nails from any extra lotion and old colour before painting.
- Check your polish. Old nail polish will eventually become clumpy and thick. If you get that bubble look to the finish, treat yourself to a new colour!
- Use a base coat. Apply a clear basecoat to help your polish last longer.
- Apply colour. Paint a coat of colour from cuticle to tip. Adding a second coat will make the colour more vibrant.
- Finish with a top coat. Apply a clear layer to seal your polish and add a high shine to the finished look.
- Allow time to dry. Set aside at least 30 minutes to dry your nails. Remember, while they might feel dry to the touch, nails can still be tacky for a few hours.
- TIP: go to the washroom before you start to avoid a smudge!
REMEMBER:
Beauty comes from the inside. Be happy and confident! ;)
