Real Girl: Jocelyn
Age: 14 Grade: 9 Sign: Gemini
Favourites: Blue is my favourite colour, I love chocolate and Italian food, dancing, taking pictures and travelling. My favourite TV show is ‘Friends’, I love shopping and celebrating Christmas with family.
Hobbies: I have great friends and I really like to hang out with them and my family. I love to travel, be a part of school teams and clubs, ride horses and play football.
School & Stuff: I am currently on the Global Action team at school. My favourite subjects are gym and French and I have been in extended French every year since grade 5. I’m proud of my grades this year so far and I’m trying out for rugby! Last year for grad I won an inter-community leadership award with one of my best friends. So far my first year in high school is going really well.
Personality: My friends would say I’m someone they can talk to and ask for advice, that I have a great personality, I’m dependable, and I have no fear. I would add that I have a good sense of humour and I don’t take things too seriously. I’m not afraid to stand up for what I believe in.
Life Challenge: My challenges pretty much been with peer pressure growing up as a teenager. I have to make good decisions about saying no to drugs and alcohol, and I’m glad that I made good friends that I’m happy to be around. When I was young my parents divorced and I’m glad that they get along really well now. That was a challenge too. My message to other girls is to be really open and talk to people about how you feel, it really does help. Talk to your parents if you can. Let it out and get advice. Smile and laugh a lot and do things that make you feel good like a sport or team.
Proud of: I’m proud that in grade eight my 2 best friends and I joined the Global Action team and raised a ton of money (almost $9,000) for children and families in Africa. We got medical attention for them to create a better life. The three of us had an assembly where we showed what we did for the families in Africa and we taught other people a lot about it. It felt so good that we made a difference.
So Jocelyn: Telling cheesy jokes to cheer people up, designing clothes, keeping up with fashion trends, helping others with a sense of style, being open minded with it, goofing around, being on time with assignments and always texting is SO ME!
Cool Fact about Jocelyn: Most people don’t realize I have a talent for designing clothes. People are always surprised and love what I draw. I have a really close relationship with my friends and family, including my brother who’s 16. We talk and play video games a lot.
Future: I would love to open my own clothing store and make a clothing line some day. I would also love to travel the world to make a difference. I haven’t decided about school yet but I love English and literature, so maybe something along those lines.
Pet Peeves: People who are hypocritical or judge others drives me nuts. Also when people say they want to make a difference but never do anything about it.
