Summer
Makeup

Summer is finally in full swing, and you may be wondering about the latest make-up trends. Here are a few tips to keep your eyes, cheeks and lips looking healthy and fresh for your long summer days and those warm summer nights.

EYES

For great eyes fast simply brush the shadow on spreading it from the lid to below the brow so that it becomes increasingly subtle as you move upward. Don’t double-dip your brush! Then add some mascara and a bit of liner. If you’re going out at night and want to add some drama, go for a smoky eye (which is easier to do than it looks). Using a black, midnight blue, or grey eye pencil, trace your top lash line and dot your bottom lash line. Smudge both with a cotton swab or brush. Smooth a brown, grey, dark green or other dark-colorued shadow over the entire eye lid including the crease. Brush a neutral shade such as pearl over just the brow bone.

dayNobody wants to have black ooze running down their face under the heat of the noon-day sun, so stick to waterproof mascara and eye pencils rather than liquid liners during the summer months. Especially if you’ll be in water. For days, a cream shimmer eye shadow or a loose shimmer eye shadow in a green, gold, lavender, rosy pink or pearl is gorgeous on many skin colors. Cream shadows are great for summer because they tend to stay put, but an eye shadow primer can make any loose shadow behave itself.

CHEEKS

For humid nights go for a cream blush that will stay on longer. Apply lightly to the apples of the cheeks and cheekbones. Be careful not to apply to much or you’ll have to start all over. Cream blush can only be fixed by washing.

dayBronzers are great for summer because they give your cheeks that warm glowing look
in the day. The best natural blush colour for you is the colour your cheeks get after exercising.

LIPS

eveningGone are the days of lip liners and heavy lipsticks. But if you simply can’t bear to part with your tube, dab on a light application and go over it with a smudge of clear gloss to lighten up a bit. Go for the darker colours in the evening when you’re out with your friends.

dayWhatever you do, stay away from dark matte lipsticks and stock up on tinted or coloured glosses, which are not only lighter and easier to wear but often less expensive. For daytime, natural is in!
