Real Girl: Melanie
Age: 16 Grade: 11 Sign: Aries
Faves: My favourite colour is purple. My favourite foods are chicken, cucumbers, grapes and anything chocolate! I love the shows Extreme Makeover: Home Edition, Ace of Cakes, Teen Mom and The Amazing Race. Some of my favourite singers are Lady Gaga, Taylor Swift and Kelly Clarkson. My favourite store is American Eagle and some of my favourite places are Camp and Disney World. I like to see movies and hang out with my friends and I like to bake.
Hobbies: Singing, swimming, baking, volunteering, trampoline/tumbling, scrapbooking, playing soccer and playing the flute.
School and Stuff: My favourite subjects are Art, French and Science. I have been on the honour roll since grade seven and at grade eight graduation I received The Principal's Award for Student Leadership. At school I am a part of three councils, Chamber Choir, Gospel Choir, Concert Choir, Samba Band and Concert Band. I like school because I get to see my friends and because of all the groups I am involved with.
Personality: My friends would describe me as happy, funny, smart, kind, responsible, creative, caring and mature. I would add that I am organized and reliable.
Life challenge: Over the past couple of years I have really begun to see that not everyone leads the same type of life as I do. In April 2010 I went to Cuba with my school. We visited an orphanage and I met children who didn't have things I take for granted such as a nice house, parents and a comfortable, stable life. Also, the camp I went to this summer accepts people of any ability and it was really amazing to see people with disabilities accomplish anything they wanted to. After these experiences I really feel as though I want to make a change in the world. My life challenge would be to help or improve the lives of people who aren't as fortunate as I am. If I can even change one person's life it would really make me happy.
Proud of: I am proud of earning the ability to attend Global Finals in Tennessee for Destination Imagination two years ago. This program allowed me to overcome my fear of speaking or performing in front of people and I got to do many cool things with other kids from around the world. I am also proud of my high grades and being on the honour roll. I am proud of the fact that I managed to learn to canoe 170 KM at camp this summer although I absolutely hated canoeing before!
So Melanie: My curly hair, wearing bright colours, having laughing fits, creating pointless songs that rhyme, making lists, reading magazines, being busy (very busy), and my determination to never give up on something I want to achieve.
Cool Fact about Melanie: I have been to every province in Canada except Newfoundland, I can wiggle my ears, and this year I learned to do a front-handspring after not having done gymnastics for three years!
Future: I really want to have a job that involves working with children. I think it would be so cool to be an Occupational Therapist for children because I would help them find ways to do everyday tasks that I take for granted.
Pet Peeves: Disorganized people, lockers and houses, writing in pencil and when people crack their knuckles.
