New Year's Resolutions

New Year's Resolutions
Do you have them? Do they work for you?

The end of the year is a great time to look back over the past year! Reflect and appreciate all that you’ve done and focus on all the wonderful things that have happened to you. You could look back at it and look at all the negative things, but what purpose would that serve? Looking at life past, present and future in a positive note will help you achieve your goals and dreams much faster and give you more satisfaction. Why wallow in the negative when there are so many positives in your life!

HAPPINESS JOURNAL
If you don’t already do so, start a Happiness Journal. Whenever you have a great day, or accomplish something you set out to do, write it down. When you feel good, make note of it! Celebrate your accomplishments every day... Happiness and success in life will come easier to teens who have a positive self-image, healthy habits, and supportive adults in their lives. When you’re having a tough day, go back and read some of your positive notes, it’s an instant pick-me-up and inspiration.

SO WHAT CAN YOU DO TO MAKE 2009 A FANTASTIC YEAR?
What makes you happy? What do you love to do? How can you make them happen?

HAVE GOALS
The best way to organize yourself for success is to have GOALS. I prefer the word goals to resolutions because goals are positive, achievable steps. The word resolution seems to imply that you’re not doing something right and that you need to change it.

How do you set your goals? Think of the big picture and what you want. Is it better grades? To be a better friend? To get organized? To eat healthier? Once you’ve determined what you want, break it down into smaller steps. Say you want better grades. Break it down to include study time every day, take more notes in class, read more, get help or make study plans with friends. The same applies for any goal. Breaking down the steps will help you achieve your goal. You just need a plan in place to do it. The benefit is that the tasks to accomplish your goal are more clearly defined and are in manageable chunks. Write your goals down. If they are on paper and in front of you, you’ll have more focus!

AFFIRM YOUR GOALS
I think the best way for goals to happen is when you believe in them an d remind yourself of them every day. Try writing out positive affirmation statements to help your unconscious mind learn and believe in what you’re telling it. If you put yourself down, you’re only reinforcing the negative. Focus on the positive to get what you want to achieve.

ORGANIZE YOUR GOALS

By organizing your goals, you’ll find solutions easier and your dreams will fall into place naturally. Instead of thinking you need a “resolution” to make things right, plan on making goals to expand on how wonderful you already are.
