JEANS FOR ANY BODY
How to Pick the RIGHT Jeans
for Your Body Type
A staple to a good looking spring wardrobe is a sweet fitting pair of jeans. Unfortunately, we all know that shopping for that perfect jean can be THE most frustrating experience. But there’s good news for most of us! You don’t have to be “skinny” to look good in a pair of jeans. It’s just a matter of finding the pair that’s right for your body type. Here are some tips about making that happen with some of the latest styles.
The Skin Tight Jean
Warning: If you have to lie on your bed, skip breakfast or call for assistance to zip up the jeans, they are too tight. Too tight jeans are not only uncomfortable but unflattering. If your jeans are tight around the waist and low rise, they create the muffin-top illusion that no one wants. While tight jeans with spandex will stretch a bit, they shrink back, so never buy a pair that doesn’t fit just right.
Low-Rise and Super Low-Rise
A word to the wise, flashing prospective prom dates your bumps and cracks…not the smartest way to land a cute escort! The remedy for rear-end exposure syndrome is to vie for a jean with a slightly higher rise, especially if you know you have a full lower body. A good rise jean should fall just about an inch below the belly button. Any further south, and birds might start parking there for the winter.
The Faded Jean
So do you buy the jeans that look like they’ve been worn at least 50 times and brought back to the store to be sold at full price? If you’re self-conscious about the size and shape of your thighs ...then definitely not. Jeans with a light fade on the thighs or butt make you look larger in those areas. So for a more slender look, skip the fade and go for a darker, more
even wash.
Flair & Boot Cut
Boot cut jeans are approximately the same width from knee to ankle. These are the most flattering for most figures because they tend to balance you out. Flares can have the same effect, but too much flare is not a good thing, especially if you are very petite. For a petite frame, skip the flare and go for the skinny jean, they will make better use of your curves if they are minimal.
The Skinny Jean
The question on everyone’s mind is: “Is the skinny jean just for skinny people?” The answer is for sure not! Skinny jeans can look good on your hips and curves, it’s just a matter of what you pair them with. Try a tres-femme pointed toe shoe with a heel or as a flat. They give a longer and sleeker look to a skinny jean. T-shirt dresses, beaded necklaces or bangle bracelets are great accessories for the skinny-jean look.
