ORANGE

orangeVibrant! Sizzling! Hot! Action-oriented! Energetic! Enthusiastic! Flamboyant! These are the attributes that we give to the colour ORANGE! Since orange is a combination of yellow and red, it shares many of their qualities.

When we think of the colour orange we may think of a sky at sunset, hillsides and woods bedecked with trees with orange foliage, the bright zesty fruit of juicy oranges and clementines, the texture and taste of freshly cut mangoes, or cartloads of October pumpkins.

Liven up a room. Try orange Gerbera daisies, a pot of marmalade mums, or a couple of velvet or satin pumpkin-orange cushions fringed in lemon-orange sparkly beads. The effect is instant and you’ll see that this small addition of colour will lift your spirits and make you smile.

Orange is the comple-mentary colour of blue, making both colours seem brighter when they are side by side. That is why life jackets are orange. You can find the survivor of a boating accident in the blue water much more easily when they are wearing a bright orange life jacket.

Believe it or not, the colour orange stimu-lates an increase of oxygen supply to the brain. That is why having orange coloured items nearby help you to feel invigorated and ready to tackle projects that require mental activity. Like a bowl of oranges, peaches and nectarines if you are doing your homework in the kitchen. And do snack on them too! Orange fruit and veggies are loaded with energy-producing nutrients like vitamins C and B.

Orange is ‘in your face’. Wear an orange sweater, pumpkin-coloured scarf or a tangerine top and you are sure to be picked out from a crowd. Orange and black may be traditional Halloween colors but try these combinations: pair an orange top with medium-blue jeans and a white jacket, or bright red, yellow and orange to make a fiery hot combination while the same combo in paler tones give a fresh, yummy effect. Add green for a tropical look. Some say to use caution when mixing orange and pink. Softer shades of each give a ‘candy sweet’ look. Play around with orange and deep purple and add big white hoop earrings to achieve an eye-catching effect. k
