Powder Pads - do you need to change them?

Your Questions
Powder Pads
Dear Julia,
This girl I know was in the mirror at school at the same time as me and she saw my compact powder pad and freaked out and said I should change it to a new one every month because it's all greasy and gross and will give me acne. Is it true? I have used the same one for like 6 months or more.
Suzane, Niagara Falls, ON
Dear Suzane,
Your friend is right, it is very important to be hygienic with your make up. Foundation sponges and powder pads collect bacteria, dirt and oil that can give you breakouts and other skin reactions. You can buy disposable make up sponges and pads. They are inexpensive and you can simply replace them as needed. For an oilier type skin I would suggest for you to replace your foundation sponge and compact sponge on a weekly basis if you use them every single day. Another tip is to use blotting paper, which will help to remove excess oils from the surface of your skin before applying your powder.
