Real Girl: Kaitlyn

Real Girls: Kaitlyn

Age: 16  Grade: 10  Sign: Capricorn

Faves: My favourite colours are green and yellow, my favourite TV show is 'One Tree Hill', and my favourite foods are vegetable soup and steak. I love all upbeat music that I can sing and dance to, and my favourite thing to do during the summer is travel.

Hobbies:
Triathlon is a huge part of my life and I train all year round. I like to read all sorts of books, hangout with my friends, and play the piano. I love to travel with my family and participate in school activities.

School and Stuff: I'm fluent in French, and I've gone to a French immersion school since kindergarten. For the past three years I've been on the honour roll, and in Grade 7, I got the “most consistent student” award for art class. My favourite subjects in school are Science, Art, and English. In Grade 6, I got the lead part in my school's musical “The Muppet Show”.

Personality: I'm very athletic, adventurous, outgoing and trustworthy. My friends would say that I'm honest, fun and easy to be yourself around.

Life Challenge: My life challenge has been trying to cope with being involved in triathlon and all the emotions and stress that comes with it. I'm on the Manitoba National team, and it's very stressful because I'm always told to do better and work harder. Sometimes I can't handle it and I break down... I cry and can't think straight, all my emotions spill out because they build up and I have to let them out. My parents and friends are always there for me when things get tough though.
My life is always so busy that I don’t have much free time to do other things. For instance, I do my homework in weird places like the car and I text and talk on the phone a lot! It's a busy lifestyle traveling to and from mine and my brother's triathlon, but I like it that way! My message to girls who are going through something like this is to stay calm, do what you love, and trust that someone will always be there for you and support you in what you do.

Proud of: I'm really proud of going to the Manitoba Summer Games when I was 14 because I came 3rd, and of how I've been doing in my first year in High School.
I'm also proud to say that I am GCDA's furthest traveler to be in a Real Girl photo shoot! The photo shoot was in Toronto, Ontario and I flew all the way from Manitoba with my mom to be there. It was so much fun traveling to the shoot. I didn’t think my parents would even let me go and they did! I was only there for 23 hours because I had to get back to go to camp the very next day! Even though we didn't get a chance to see the city while we were there, I had so much fun and I loved being in the shoot.

So Kaitlyn: Saying “No, kay, umm” before I try and explain something, using my eyebrows to express emotion, always being late, always wearing makeup, texting my friends, talking about guys, being a night person, and training for triathlon are soooo ME!

Cool fact about Kaitlyn: I've traveled all around North America, and so far my favourite place to be is Vancouver, British Columbia in Canada.

Future: I really want to be a Landscape Architect when I'm older, and I also want to travel the world. One day I hope to go the Canada Summer Games for triathlon.

Pet Peeves: Smoking, people who don't give you a straight answer, and people who bite their nails.
