SLEEP, why is it such a struggle for some people?

SLEEP
Why is it such a struggle
for some people?

Do you hit snooze and wish you could go back to sleep...
for the whole day? Or do you open your eyes and just feel great, ready to get up and go? Doctors will tell you that teens need as much sleep as small children... like 10+ hours every night, wow, seems like a lot, huh? But not all teens are created equally in the sleep department. Check out how Jessica and Brittney are total opposites! So much for twins being the same!

How do you feel in the morning?
Jessica: GREAT! I get my feet on the floor as soon as my alarm goes off and I start thinking about all the things I’m going to do that day.

Brittney:
UGH! Exhausted. The only thing I think about is how many more times I can push SNOOZE until I really, really have to get up. And even still, I seriously think a train could go through my room and I still wouldn’t get up. Once, the fire alarm went off from toast and I didn’t even hear it!

What Is Going to Bed Like For You?
Jessica: I usually get ready for bed around 9 or so, then I like to read for a while, but I get so tired it makes me fall asleep. In the middle of the night I usually get frustrated with my hamster, Betty, and I take her running wheel away because it makes so much noise and drives me CRAZY, but then I just fall asleep again.

Brittney:
I get ready for bed at 9 or so too, but then I usually get distracted with my computer or something else cool that I find in my room. Eventually I pick the book I want to read and get into bed. After a while I turn off the light and try to go to sleep. When that doesn’t work I get up and draw at my desk. Then I go back to bed and try to sleep again. After a while I get up and bug my Mom about not being able to sleep. She just sends me back to bed and I usually end up falling asleep from reading again. Oh by the way, Jess... I can hear Betty through the wall and it makes me CRAZY too!

SLEEP FACTS

  • You get the best rest when it’s pitch black. Close the blinds and turn off the night light!
  • Ducks have a survival technique where they keep half their brain awake while they sleep with the other.
  • Albert Einstein slept a minimum of 10 hours per night!
  • It should take between 10-15 minutes to fall asleep.
