Dear Angela,
I’m helping out with the makeup for our end of year production at school and someone said you have to LOAD IT ON so people will see it in the audience. Do you have any theatre makeup tips for me?

You’re right Beth!!
The theatre is a great place to see some of the most exaggerated makeup but that doesn’t mean it’s thicker or heavier, it just means the colours used for stage makeup are more intense then regular street makeup. The key to a good stage makeup is to make the character’s facial features visible from a distance without loading it on. Try this: Always think of the audience’s point of view while applying. Stand back when you’re done to check if the characters features (brows, eyes, cheeks, lips etc.) can be seen from afar, if not try using a stronger colour and remember to be very careful when applying makeup on others. Start clean, don’t doubledip and always sharpen lip and eye pencils before using them. Good luck with the production and have fun!!

Dear Julia,
How do I make my eyes look bigger? I like lots of eye liner but someone said it maks them look smaller. Is it true?!

Hey Amanda!
Eyeliner used properly will define your eyes and make them look bigger. First brighten up your eyes by applying a metallic creamy eye shadow in a light shade. If you are not allowed to wear make up in school, apply Vaseline lightly by using your fingertips. Now draw the eyeliner (black or brown) in a thin line as close to the lash line as possible and extend it just slightly beyond the eye. Smudge the line with a small brush until you don’t see a harsh, even line. Another trick to make your eyes appear bigger is lining the inner rim of your bottom lashes with a white, light blue or peach eyeliner. Avoid dark liner in there as it will make your eyes look smaller. Finally, use an eye lash curler pressing the lashes carefully in pumping motions. To complete the look, coat your lashes with a brown mascara. Nicely groomed brows is another way to frame your face and eyes. Have fun trying these tricks!

I love wearing hats in the winter, they are so adorable. Do you have any tips on how NOT to have hat-head or messed up hair after you take it off at school?

Dear Hat Head,
You definitely don’t have to sacrifice style for warmth. Try these tips this winter: First of all, check the sizing of your hats. Many hats cause kinked, flat hair because they are too tight on your head. Always wait until your hair has completely dried or has cooled off from a blow dry before putting on a hat. Otherwise your hair will set or kink to the shape of your hat. When arriving at school carefully remove your hat as soon as you are indoors. This will prevent your head from sweating, which can cause terrible hat-head. After removing your hat use your fingers and a small amount of styling product (like a pomade) and/or a little hair spray to tame fly-aways and restore your style. If static occurs, take a dryer sheet and run it over your hair. You can also try wearing a loosely tied bandana or scarf under a wool hat!
