New Year’s Party
We love any reason to celebrate and have a party, and what better time than the start of a brand new year? We love planning all the details, and so we put together some ideas for a party that looks great, tastes good and is totally fun!
Decorations
New Years parties are about celebration. Make your party area colourful and fun! Use pearl or glittery balloons, or hang sparkled snowflakes from the ceiling. A wintery colour theme with blues and whites is another great idea. Shiny streamers or garland can help to liven up your look. Don’t forget to decorate your table with sparkles, fluffy snowy flakes or glitter all around your food platters and party gifts.
Invitations
To have a good party you need your favourite people, such as your BFFs. You’ll need invitations, so why not make them really nice. List all the needed info (obviously) then add a little bit of your own style. Give it a New Years’ touch with sparkle glue, pics, and any other cool things that resemble you and your friends.
Food
Here are some fun food ideas for your party. Buffet style is always good when you are having a party because people can eat or drink whatever and whenever they like. So set up your feast in a place where people have lots of room to get what they want.
Hors d’ouvres are best and the ones that aren’t gooey and don’t need forks are even better. You can make anything you like, but here are some
of our favourite ideas...
• Crackers with cheese and a slice of apple.
• A veggie tree where you make skewers of veggies and stab them into a styrofoam ball that sits in the base of a small flower pot.
• Home baked cookies in the shape of snowflakes with white icing and blue sprinkles.
• Mini bagel sandwiches with cream cheese, tomato and cucumber slices and a piece of lettuce.
• Fruit snow ball: use a melon baller with cantaloupe, watermelon and hneydew and put about 5 of them into a mini plastic cup with a tooth pick to eat them with.
Activities
Whatever you and your friends like to do is fine for this party. You could play cards or board games, have competitions with prizes, play games in the dark, do pranks, charades, truth or dare, MASH (see May’s issue),'would you rather’... you get the idea. Whatever you think would make your party fun, do it!
Music
Music is mostly up to you and your friends. If you want a totally fun, upbeat party then put on some music you love to dance to. If you want a calm and cozy party, then go for your fave slow songs. No matter what songs you pick, have an awesome party, and don’t forget to watch the countdown into the New Year on TV at midnight!
Fun Drinks
Here’s a cool thing we do to make drinks fancy. Use wine glasses if your Mom lets you, wet the rim then dip it onto a plate that has a mixture of white sugar and coloured sprinkles. It makes a fancy rim. Then pour in your pop or juice. For a finishing touch, get one of those ice cube trays that make ice spheres and add them to your drinks to look like snowballs! Later on if you serve hot chocolate, make a sprinkle rim on coffee cups and hook a candy cane to the edge.
Gifts
A little gift at the end of your new year’s party says thank you for coming. An idea is to wrap your favourite cookies (or fave treat) in a little gift bag and write a personal message for each of your guests. Display them on your table for the night and then hand them out at the end.
